A message is either the initial posting that begins a new discussion or thread within a discussion, a reply to the original posting, or a reply to a reply.

To post a new message to begin a discussion or thread:
Perform one of the following:
From the Discussions application view page,
click in the
New button, and from the drop-down menu click Message.
The Message Editor appears.
From the Discussions portlet, select Messages
from the Discussions/Messages selector drop-down list, then clickNew.
The Message Editor appears.
From the Discussion Explorer portlet, make
sure you are viewing the list of messages (instead of discussions), then
in the toolbar, click .
If you chose to post a message from the Discussions portlet, select the project and discussion to which you want to post the message. The message that you post appears as a top-level message in the discussion.
Type no more than 100 characters in the Subject text box.
Optional. Click Attach Documents or Upload New Documents to attach or upload a document to the message. Attachments are stored in the root folder of the project.
Type no more than 16,000 characters in the Message Body text box. Use the formatting options in the text editor's tool bar to format your reply. To learn more about the formatting toolbar, see Message Editor Toolbar.
Click Finish.
To reply to a message:
Perform one of the following:
From the Discussions portlet, select Messages from the Discussions/Messages
selector drop-down list. Select the message to which you want to reply,
then click Reply.

From the Discussions application view page,
click the discussion that contains the message to which you want to reply.
In the table pane, select the message to which you want to reply, click
Reply, and from
the drop-down menu click Message.

From the Discussion Explorer portlet, make
sure you are viewing the list of messages (instead of discussions), select
the message to which you want to reply, then in the toolbar, click .

From the Discussion Explorer portlet, click
the message you want to which you want to reply to display the thread
hierarchy view, then click .

box appears.
Optional. Edit the subject of your reply. Type no more than 100 characters in the Subject text box.

In the body of your reply, click Include previous message to include the text of the
message to which you are responding.
