Messages

A message is either the initial posting that begins a new discussion or thread within a discussion, a reply to the original posting, or a reply to a reply.

Posting a New Message

To post a new message to begin a discussion or thread:

  1. Perform one of the following:

  2. If you chose to post a message from the Discussions portlet, select the project and discussion to which you want to post the message. The message that you post appears as a top-level message in the discussion.

  1. Type no more than 100 characters in the Subject text box.

  2. Optional. Click Attach Documents or Upload New Documents to attach or upload a document to the message. Attachments are stored in the root folder of the project.

  3. Type no more than 16,000 characters in the Message Body text box. Use the formatting options in the text editor's tool bar to format your reply. To learn more about the formatting toolbar, see Message Editor Toolbar.

  4. Click Finish.

Replying to a Message

To reply to a message:

  1. Perform one of the following:

  2. Optional. Edit the subject of your reply. Type no more than 100 characters in the Subject text box.

  1. Optional. Click Attach Documents or Upload New Documents to attach or upload a document to the message. Attachments are stored in the root folder of the project.

  2. Optional. In the body of your reply, click Include previous message to include the text of the message to which you are responding.
