Project templates are useful for quickly creating multiple projects with similar characteristics or projects that closely or completely resemble an existing project. Users with the Manage Collaboration Projects activity right can create and manage project templates.
Note: Task status data is neither copied over into projects that are created from project templates, nor into project templates that are created from projects.

Creating a New Project Template
To create a new project template from scratch:
Perform one of the following:
From the application view, select Project Explorer... in the Choose Project drop-down box.
From the Projects portlet, click Project Explorer.
In the Project Explorer navigation tree, browse to the Template Project Folder.
In the action bar, click in the
New
button, and, from the drop-down menu, select Project
Template.
The Project Template Editor appears.
Leave Create an empty project template selected.
Configure the project template settings. For more information, see General Settings (Project Template).
Optional. Configure the project roles and default permissions. For more information, see Roles and Permissions (Project Template).
Optional. Configure the functional areas of the project template. For more information, see Functional Areas.
Optional. Configure project-wide custom properties. For more information, see Custom Properties.
Click Finish.
Creating a Project Template from an Existing Project
To create a project template from an existing project:
Perform one of the following:
From the application view, select Project Explorer... in the Choose Project drop-down box.
From the Projects portlet, click Project Explorer.
In the Project Explorer navigation tree, browse to the Template Project Folder.
In the action bar, click in the
New
button, and, from the drop-down menu, select Project
Template.
The Project Template Editor appears.
Select Create project template based on an existing project.
Click Browse
next to Source Project.
The Choose a Project dialog
box appears.
Select the project on which you want the project template to be based.
Click Finish.
You are returned to the Project Editor.

Editing an Existing Project Template
To edit a project:
Perform one of the following:
From the application view, select Project
Explorer... in the Choose Project drop-down box. Browse to the
project template you want to edit, select the project template, then click
Edit in the action
bar.
From the Projects portlet, click Project Explorer. Browse to the project template you
want to edit, select the project template, then click
Edit in the action bar.
From the application view of the project template, select Template Settings from the Manage Project drop-down box.
